Peace Now is calling on the Ministry of Housing, the Israel Land Authority, and the Custodian of Government Property to warn companies and banks against bidding on construction in E1.
In a letter to the Ministry of Housing, the Israel Land Authority, and the Custodian of Government Property, Peace Now demanded that said authorities warn companies, contractors, banks, and financing institutions. We claimed that they are not informed of the risk of international sanctions arising from participation in construction tenders in E1.
Three tenders are currently being advanced in E1 for over 3,400 housing units and a commercial complex.
The letter notes that several countries have already warned businesses against taking part in construction in E1, and that the risk may also extend to banks and other entities that finance, guarantee, or support the projects.
We demand an explicit warning in the tender documents explaining to bidders the legal, financial, and reputational risks involved in participating.
Peace Now: The government is racing ahead with the destructive E1 plan. In addition to the enormous diplomatic damage, it is also putting Israeli companies, banks, and investors at risk. Bidders cannot be kept in the dark about the fact that participating in the project could expose them to international sanctions. Anyone choosing to get involved in E1 must know in advance the price they may have to pay.
