Yonatan Mizrachi works as the Settlement Watch project co-director at the Israeli peace movement of “Peace Now” since the beginning of 2023.
Widely-recognized as one of Israel’s foremost experts on a full range of issues related to West Bank settlements and settlement-related developments in East Jerusalem, Yonatan’s work includes traveling daily throughout the West Bank, examining aerial photos and browsing official Israeli documents. The “Settlement Watch” project serves as a resource for Israeli politicians, diplomats, international media organizations, and first and foremost – for the Israeli public.
Yonatan Mizrachi studied archaeology at the Hebrew University. He has worked as an archaeologist with the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Hebrew University in both East and West Jerusalem. In 2006, he published a book about his experiences as an archaeological supervisor along the route of the separation barrier as it was being constructed in and around Jerusalem (People of the Wall, Pardes, 2006). Mizrachi co-founded Emek Shaveh in 2009, an NGO dedicated to preventing the misuse of archaeology in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He served as its executive director until 2022.
Since 2022, Mizrachi has been a Research Associate at the Forum for Regional Thinking. In 2023, he joined Settlement Watch at Peace Now.
