Anticipating the visit of U.S. President, Barack Obama, to Israel, Peace Now initiated a campaign called “Obama, come to the square!” The idea behind the campaign was to call President Obama to give a speech in support of Peace and two states in Rabin Square in front of a hundred thousand Israelis. Support for the campaign grew rapidly and although the US President did not give a speech at Rabin Square but in a Jerusalem conference hall, he did mention the initiative during his speech and expressed his satisfaction with it. On the day of the President’s visit Peace Now laid a huge flag at the Latrun area, between Jerusalem and Ben-Gurion airport, saying “We the people want peace.” President Obama’s speech referred to Israeli Palestinian peace as possible, just and necessary.
