On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the Higher Planning Council is set to discuss promoting 274 housing units in three settlements in the West Bank. The council will review 11 construction or plan modification proposals, out of which three housing unit plans in isolated settlements—Elon Moreh, Mitzpe Yishai, and Ma’ale Amos—are planned for deposit.
Plan Details:
Context:
In July, the Higher Planning Council approved 5,255 housing units in West Bank settlements. Since the beginning of 2024, the Israeli government has advanced plans for a total of 8,720 housing units. If the additional 274 units are approved, the annual total for 2024 will rise to 8,994 units.
Peace Now: “The Israeli government is expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank as part of its broader plan to entrench Israeli control over the territories, thereby harming any chances for a political solution. After more than a year of war, Israelis and Palestinians do not need more settlement expansion but rather hope for peace and a future free from the horrors of war and occupation.”
